Designing a Therapeutic Live Experience
A deep dive into the creative and technical process behind a music therapy-focused live set – and the evolution toward a new hybrid format.
When Marcos Bianchi (Alchemyst) and I began shaping his live set for music therapy, our priority was intention. Every compositional decision had to serve a purpose beyond aesthetics. We structured the sessions carefully, developing sonic passages that could guide emotional states while allowing flexibility. The arrangement process focused on flow – building transitions that feel natural and supportive rather than abrupt or overly dramatic.
The sonic palette was built primarily using Komplete and Arturia V Collection. We crafted layered pads, subtle harmonic movements, and evolving textures designed to promote grounding and emotional openness. Instead of relying on presets, we shaped sounds specifically for this context, paying close attention to frequency balance and dynamic range so the music could breathe and resonate without overwhelming the listener.
Technically – the setup combines software instruments with hands-on control. MIDI keyboards and mixers play a central role, allowing expressive input and real-time manipulation of parameters like filters, reverbs, and modulation. This hybrid approach ensures stability while preserving the organic responsiveness needed in therapeutic environments.
In performance, the set becomes fluid and adaptive. Marcos can extend sections, soften transitions, or intensify textures depending on the energy in the room. The MIDI controllers allow him to interact directly with the soundscape, shaping it moment by moment. The result is a live experience where technology supports presence – and where sound functions as a tool for awareness, balance, and connection.
Marcos and I are currently developing a new hybrid live set that will expand this concept even further. The idea is to integrate electronic production, live instrumentation, and real-time sound therapy elements into a more immersive format. We’re refining the technical architecture and exploring new performance dynamics, aiming to create an experience that bridges concert energy with therapeutic depth in a seamless and innovative way.
BETWEEN NUMBERS AND MUSIC
Pure Alchemy
An ambient music album project that is explored within a multi therapeutic context, using specific frequencies according to Pythagorean numerology, metaphysics and music therapy, developed with the use of samples of ancestral instruments and the latest technology in audio synthesis. It is recommended to use headphones to enrich the experience of binaural sounds.
From the outset, every track was designed with purpose. This album isn’t built for peak-time impact — it’s structured to support grounding, introspection, and subtle energetic alignment. We mapped tempos, harmonic centers, and dynamic arcs carefully, ensuring each composition could hold space rather than demand attention.
The sequence of the album was crafted like a guided session: an opening phase for centering, a deeper immersion into layered textures, and a gradual return to stillness.
The core of the compositional work was developed using Kontakt and Arturia V Collection. Kontakt allowed us to build organic textures, soft percussive elements, evolving pads, and detailed harmonic layers that feel natural and immersive.
With Arturia V Collection, we shaped warm analog-inspired tones, subtle drones, and slowly modulating synth layers. Instead of dramatic movement, we focused on micro-variations – gentle filter shifts, gradual harmonic evolution, and dynamic automation that keeps the sound alive without disrupting calmness.
Every sound was selected and designed to support emotional regulation and spacious listening.
Between Numbers and Music represents an evolution in Alchemyst’s musical path. It highlights his ability to merge technical awareness with therapeutic intention — using structure not as limitation, but as a framework for emotional expression.
This album demonstrates how electronic production tools can serve healing contexts when used with clarity and purpose. It’s not just about sound — it’s about resonance, alignment, and creating space for inner movement.
