VIAJE DE SONIDO
SONAR – VIAJE DE SONIDO: Crafting a Transformative Live Experience for the 9.º Congreso Internacional FIADASEC.
Mario Larrauri delivers more than a show – he creates an experience designed to resonate long after the final vibration fades.
When I began working with Mario Larrauri – sound therapist and music producer from the Dominican Republic, based in Santo Domingo – on his new live show VIAJE DE SONIDO, I immediately understood that this wasn’t just another performance concept. It was an immersive sonic experience designed specifically for the 9.º Congreso Internacional FIADASEC – Por una Cultura de Paz, an event rooted in awareness, dialogue, and human connection.
From the outset, our approach was intentional. Even though we were in different locations, we composed, edited, mixed, and mastered the entire body of work remotely via Zoom. Those sessions became creative laboratories where every texture, frequency, and dynamic movement was shaped with precision. Working at a distance forced us to listen deeper and communicate more clearly — and that translated directly into the emotional clarity of the show.
Technically, this project was a beautiful hybrid of organic and modern tools. We incorporated real instruments such as Push 3 for expressive live sequencing and performance control, alongside the raw resonance of didgeridoo, singing bowls, and gong. Electric guitars added harmonic depth and subtle movement, expanding the emotional palette of the show.
On the digital side, we relied heavily on Arturia V Collection X and NADA, developing custom patches specifically tailored to the identity of VIAJE DE SONIDO. These sounds were not presets pulled off the shelf – they were shaped carefully to interact with the acoustic instruments, ensuring cohesion between analog resonance and synthetic texture. The balance between these elements was central during the mixing and mastering stages, where spatial depth and dynamic flow were critical to preserving the therapeutic intention of the performance.
VIAJE DE SONIDO is a clear demonstration of Mario’s versatility and musical vision. He seamlessly bridges therapeutic soundscapes with contemporary production aesthetics, moving between meditative atmospheres and more rhythmically driven passages without losing coherence. His ability to hold space sonically – especially in a context like FIADASEC – speaks to both his artistic maturity and his sensitivity as a sound therapist.
For me, this project highlights Mario’s ability to move fluidly between worlds — ceremonial, electronic, cinematic, and live performance. It’s a testament to how expansive his musical language has become.
Currently, Mario and I are working closely on the preparation of a new live show scheduled for this year, pushing the concept even further and refining the integration between therapeutic sound design and contemporary production techniques.
